JOIN US FOR THE RIDE! - 2013 Director's Letter
Humble Origins
How did we get here? A few years back I was just a lonely geek/gamer in Dothan, AL.
I had just moved into town from a small neighboring city (Daleville, Al) and was attending Troy University, Dothan Campus.
School was-- well school, And needless to say I was ready to meet some like-minded individuals:
Nerds. Allons-y! I gathered my Magic cards, inventoried my Anime, cataloged my Sci-Fi film collection,
and got my dice out; I was ready to get my geek on! But that was when things took a turn for the worst...
I started searching for the local game shop and... No Dice (Pun Intended) I was informed by another local
at the book store that the town had been without game store for years! I was heartbroken... not for me
alone, but for the community. It was then the seed was planted in my head to develop my own gaming
community. Not a business, but a community oriented game shop...Thus, Fanatix was born! Finally in
July 2010, Fanatix opened its doors to the public and it has been a wild ride ever since!
We would often joke at the shop during times while others were away at conventions saying things
like "We're a convention every weekend!" or "We've got our own Fanatix-Con!"
Well, we kind of took it a step further... Fanatix would like to officially present: FANATICON!
Fanaticon was born from our love of all things creative and geek. We want you to have the same
opportunities and experiences as anyone else in the world. That's our mission; always has been,
always will be.
We're now in our second year. We like to call it Beta and the vision remains the same.
This day is for you guys. All the Fans of different games, movies, comics, shows, costumes,
characters, and fandoms! This day is the one day where all of you geeks that I've met or haven't met
(past, present, and future) will come together and converse about the nerd world we live in. Talk about
your current interests, compete in trivia contests, learn about one another's interests by going to panels
and discussions. See wonderful costumes made by locals and meet artists, writers, and dreamers that
all started from a place just like we did: the South. We look forward to expanding this fan convention,
and hopefully you'll join us for the ride.
LL&P,
Phillip Chalker - Director
